Director

Rank: Populat, Class 5

Duty: Oversee the proper functioning of a City.

Requirements*: Every basic Craft at 2, Craft (Magitech) 2, Lore 2, Occult 2, Bureaucracy 5. May have appropriate specialties.

Description: The director oversees a city. While this obviously encompasses numerous jobs and duties, they all boil down to two main functions: advising/carrying out orders of the Tripartite and emergency response. While the Tripartite makes various decisions about what the city needs, necessary growth, etc. it is the Director’s job to start converting that into production schedules and factory quotas. It is also the director’s job to oversee and assist any emergency situation that might endanger the entire city. In practice, this is essentially confined to any emergency that has been going on for longer than a half hour, as it takes at least that long to notify the Director. At that point, the director is supposed to decide what to do and how to proceed, from simply letting the people on the spot continue, ordering more emergency crews, requesting a Champion’s assistance (most cities have a Champion fitted with emergency response gear on call at all times), or, in the most dangerous situations, having that section of the city evacuated and destroyed.

Sub-Director

Duty: Oversee the proper functioning of a City.

Requirements: Every basic Craft at 2, Craft (Magitech) 2, Lore 2, Occult 2, Bureaucracy 5. May have appropriate specialties.

Description: The job of the Sub-Director is to assist the Director in their duties by overseeing the city while the Director is asleep, eating, on break, etc. Whenever an emergency breaks out, the first duty of the Sub-Director is to notify the Director, then try to handle things until the Director arrives.

Supervisor

Rank: Populat, Class 4

Duty: Oversee the proper functioning of one of a City’s industry sectors.

Requirements: Every basic Craft at 2, Craft (Magitech) 2, Lore 2, Occult 2, Bureaucracy 3. Should have at least one specialty at three relating to their industry. May have appropriate other specialties.

Description: The Supervisors are responsible for taking the needed quotas, as determined by the Plutarchs and Director, and converting those into actual production schedules for each segment of a City’s industry. They must know their assigned industry inside and out, so as to be able to advise the Plutarchs and Director as necessary regarding those quotas, shift schedules, production runs, maintenance, etc. and ensure that the Populat can realistically achieve these goals.

Foreman

Rank: Populat, Class 3

Duty: Oversee the proper functioning of a Factory.

Requirements: Craft (Air) 2, Craft (Fire) 2, Craft (Magitech) 1, Lore 1, Occult 1, Bureaucracy 2. Should have the Craft related to what their factory does at 2. Should have at least a 2 point specialty in what their factory does. May have appropriate other specialties.

Description: The foreman runs a factory. They are responsible for ensuring that quotas are met, discipline is kept, maintenance is performed, etc. If a Shift Chief has a persistent discipline problem or low productivity, they investigate it. If problems occur on their shift, they handle them.

Shift-Chief

Rank: Populat, Class 2

Duty: Oversee the proper functioning of a work group.

Requirements: One craft at 2, Bureaucracy 1, Performance 2. Should have at least a 1 point specialty in what their factory does. May have appropriate other specialties.

Description: A shift chief is responsible for keeping a work group of anywhere from 20 to 200 Populat workers working at peak efficiency. They lead their groups in timekeeping songs, punish the lazy, and reward the efficient. Unfortunately for them, the current situation in Nurad means that the standard punishment of assigning more work is almost physically impossible (forcing anyone to work more shifts might well kill them) and they usually don’t have the resources to reward the deserving, so they’ve had to get clever.

Worker

Rank: Populat, Class 1

Duty: Do your job.

Requirements: One craft at 1. May have appropriate specialties.

Description: The rank and file members of the Populat. They do all the basic non-skilled labor that needs doing in Autochthonia, from feeding Autochthon with prayer via ritual lever pulling, to serving as control systems for some of his bio-systems, from serving as assembly line workers in Factory-Cathedrals, to quality control and repair teams, from serving food and distributing goods, to working the creches, the Workers handle all of the basic menial jobs in Autochthonia.

  • Note: These requirements are the bare minimums needed for the job. Many Populat members will develop higher rankings than these, the longer they work. Any elder Populat member also likely has a number of specialties related to their jobs or hobbies.
